Yoga, meditation and…Solfeggio frequencies? While the first two practices to relieve physical and emotional stress are well known, using the Solfeggio frequencies is a third practice many are now including in their daily rituals and routine.
To science it is known that sound, which is a vibration, creates an effects on our cells. Just as if a person is in a car with loud bass and feels the vibration on their body, we also begin resonating with other frequencies, even if they are softer than the bass bumping in your friend’s car.
Dr. Candice Pert, PhD, says of vibrational medicine, “Energy and vibration go all the way to the molecular level. We have 70 different receptors on the molecules and when vibration and frequency reaches that far they begin to vibrate [thus allowing the cells to be directly affected by vibration].”
She follows that up by saying: “…basically, receptors function as scanners (sensing molecules, on a cellular level). They cluster in cellular membranes, waiting for the right ligand (much smaller molecules than receptors), to come dancing along (diffusing) through the fluid surrounding each cell, and mount them – binding with them and (tickling ) them to turn them on and get them motivated to vibrate a message into the cell. Binding of the ligand to the receptor is likened to two voices, striking the same note and producing a vibration that rings a doorbell to open the doorway to the cell.”
This scientific statement changes everything then. Albert Einstein even talks of frequency and energy being primary:
“Concerning matter, we have been all wrong. What we have called matter is energy, whose vibration has been so lowered as to be perceptible to the senses. There is no matter.”
If sound and frequencies affect our cells, body and thus our state of health, how can we use sound to be the best people we can be and relieve both short-term and long-term stress?
The Solfeggio Frequencies
The Solfeggio frequencies are a 6-tone scale that was used in ancient Gregorian chants but was apparently “lost” by the Catholic church. In the mid-1970’s Dr. Joseph Puleo rediscovered the Solfeggio scale when he was researching numerological patterns within the Bible.
The method he used was as followed.
In Chapter 7, verse 12 he found a reference to the first day. The second day was mentioned in verse 18. With the third day in verse 24, and so forth until the final reference in verse 78 which is speaking of the twelfth day.
To which the Pythagorean reduction of these verse numbers is:
Verse 12 =
1 + 2 = 3 Verse 18 = 1 + 8 = 9 Verse 24 = 2 + 4 = 6
Verse 30 = 3 + 0 = 3 Verse 36 = 3 + 6 = 9 Verse 42 = 4 + 2 = 6
All the way until verse 78. The pattern is that it always come out to 396. 396 Hz is the first Solfeggio frequency.
The next Solfeggio frequency is 417 Hz. 417 was discovered by beginning with the 13th verse (1+3=4). Followed by the 19th (1+9=10, which is 1+0=1) then followed by the 25th (2+5=7). This was done to find the rest of the other four frequencies, which are 528 Hz, 639 Hz, 741 Hz and 852 Hz.
With respect to 528 Hz, it corresponds with Mi on the Solfeggio musical scale. In Latin, Mira gestorum translates to miracle. Quite interestingly, 528 Hz is a frequency genetic biochemists have used to repair broken DNA. Does this put new meaning to the phrase, “heartfelt love heals all wounds?” Perhaps this is to be taken literally.
Additionally, we should look closer at what Nikola Tesla once said:
“If you only knew the magnificence of the 3, 6 and 9, then you would have a key to the universe.”
Remember, it was 396 Hz that began the unlocking of this mysterious tonal scale.
Intonation, Time and Space
The Solfeggio frequencies were under the the tuning practice of what is called “Just Intonation.” According to Wikipedia, Just Intonation:
“Is any musical tuning in which the frequencies of notes are related by ratios of small whole numbers. Any interval tuned in this way is called a pure or just interval. Pure intervals are important in music because they naturally tend to be perceived by humans as ‘consonant’: pleasing or satisfying.”
After the 16th Century, the musical scale was widely switched to using the 12-tone Equal Temperament. The classical music greats did not used the Equal Temperament, but used the Just Intonation. This is why often when hearing a classic from Beethoven, Bach or Mozart, when tuned appropriately, we feel a deeper, richer, more cosmic feeling to the music. We feel relaxed and our stress melts away.
While writing this, I have listened to three of the six Solfeggio frequencies. Below I will post the six frequencies, their attributes and a link to an audio recording for each of the frequencies. I have personally used these for about five years and know that they have helped me in challenging times as well as to simply relieve daily stress. Enjoy the experience!
396 Hz- Liberating guilt and fear
417 Hz- Transmutation, creativity and strength
639 Hz-Clear communication, connection
852 Hz- Opening to the Divine, awareness
